Planing type ship

The general shape of a ship varies depending on the type of hull support, but it can be broadly classified into displacement, semi-submersible, submersible, planing, hydrofoil, and ACV types. Displacement ships are a very common type of ship, with part of the hull below the waterline and the other part above, and most ships belong to this category. Catamarans can be considered a variation of this type, and are used when carrying cargo that is light compared to the volume, such as automobiles, or for ships that require large lateral stability, such as fireboats, but they have problems with seaworthiness and are not often used in the open sea. …
