A treatise on haiku. Written by Chikashige (Ryuho). Published in 1636 (Kan'ei 13). Also written as "Hanahi-kusa" or "Okusa." This was the first book to be printed and published on the rules and etiquette of haiku, which were often secret. It compiles the rules of haiku like a dictionary and puts them into a small, easy-to-use book. It responded to the needs of the rapidly growing haiku population, and was widely circulated and reprinted many times. Many expanded editions have also been published, including "Hanahi-kusa Daizen" (1664). [Inui Hiroyuki] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
