Kabukurinuma Swamp

Japanese: 蕪栗沼 - かぶくりぬま

This swamp spreads out at the confluence of the Oyamada River and the Kayakari River, near the border of Osaki City, Tome City, and Kurihara City in Miyagi Prefecture. It was once turned into rice fields due to reclamation, but has now been restored to a shallow body of water as a flood control basin, with marsh plants such as wild rice and reeds forming colonies. Like Izu-numa, located about 8 km north, it is known as a breeding and wintering ground for waterfowl, with a particularly large population of white-fronted geese. In November 2005, it was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland along with the surrounding rice fields. It is about 3 km southeast of Semine Station on the Tohoku Main Line.

宮城県大崎市と登米市，栗原市の境界近く，小山田川と萱刈(かやかり)川の合流地点に広がる沼。干拓により一時水田となったが，現在は洪水調節のための遊水地として水深の浅い水域に復していて，マコモやヨシなどの湿地性植物が群落をなす。約８km北にある伊豆沼同様，水鳥の繁殖地・越冬地として知られ，特にマガンの個体数が多い。周辺の水田とともに2005年11月，ラムサール条約登録湿地となる。東北本線の瀬峰駅から南東へ約３km。
