A collection of documents from the early Heian period. 1000 volumes. Compiled by Shigeno Sadanushi. Finished in 831 (Tencho 8). By order of Emperor Junna, Sadanushi, together with various Confucian scholars, collected documents from ancient times to the present, and listed the phrases and sections of the documents that corresponded to each category. It was an unprecedentedly large work, the likes of which were not seen in China at the time. Two volumes remain: Volume 864 "Hyakukokubu" (Part 2 on Grains) and Volume 868 "Fuhakubu" (Part 3 on Fabrics). The number of documents cited gives an idea of the grandeur of the whole work, and it is a valuable resource for learning about imported documents and vestigial writings of the time, and shows the academic level of the time. Included in the miscellaneous section of Zoku Gunsho Ruiju. [Shosuke Ozone] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
