…In the 15th century, Leonardo da Vinci left sketches of a rotorcraft with a spiral-type rotor, but it was not until the 20th century that a helicopter capable of flying with a man was created. In 1907, Paul Cornu of France succeeded in the first helicopter flight, with a rotor on both the front and back, at just 30 cm above the ground for a short time of 20 seconds. After that, the American Berliner brothers made a two-rotor helicopter, the Spanish L. Pescara made a biplane with two coaxial rotors (with a total of 20 blades on the top and bottom), and the German AG von Baumhauer made a single-rotor helicopter. Of these, Baumhauer's helicopter had a mechanism almost identical to modern helicopters, but it only managed to float close to the ground. …
