A town in Ishikawa County in southern Fukushima Prefecture. Most of the town is the hilly land of the Abukuma Highlands, where rice and tobacco are cultivated. Asakawa, in the center of the town, was the castle town of the Asakawa clan in the early modern period, and later a jin'ya (camp) for the Tenryo government was established here. The town is known for the Asakawa Uprising (1798), a peasant uprising. The Suigun Line runs through the town. 福島県南部,石川郡の町。大部分が阿武隈(あぶくま)高地の丘陵地で,米作,葉タバコ栽培が行われる。中心の浅川は近代初期浅川氏の城下で,のち天領支配の陣屋が置かれ,百姓一揆浅川騒動(1798年)で知られた地。水郡(すいぐん)線が通じる。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。37.43km2。6888人(2010)。
