A sect of Mahayana Buddhism that arose in the early 4th century in north-central India with Maitreya as its founder and with consciousness-only as its fundamental position. It was perfected by Asanga and Vasubandhu, and is also called Yogacara or Yoga-only because it aims to perfect the mind's consciousness through meditation practice (yogagyo). The Chinese Shelun sect and the Japanese Hosso sect belong to this sect. → Related article Dignaga Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
