Annecy (English spelling)
The capital of the Haute-Savoie department in southeastern France. Located at the northwestern end of Lake Annecy, famous for its scenic beauty, it is the center of the lakeside resort area. Surrounded by hills, it has a mild climate. There are ruins of a Gallo-Roman town nearby, and in the Middle Ages it developed around its castle as the capital of the County of Genevois. In 1401 it was handed over to the Duke of Savoy, and was finally integrated into France in 1860. The castle ruins (remodeled in the 15th and 16th centuries), which is now a museum, the cathedral (16th century), and rows of medieval houses remain. Tourism is the main industry, and industries such as cutlery, bearings, textiles, and food are also well developed. Population 51,143 (1990).

フランス南東部,オートサボア県の県都。景勝地で有名なアヌシー湖の北西端に位置し,湖畔周辺の保養地の中心。周囲を丘陵に囲まれて気候も温暖。近くにはガロ・ローマ時代の町の遺跡があり,中世にジュヌボア伯領の首都として城を中心に発展したが,1401年サボイア公に譲渡され,1860年に最終的にフランスに統合された。博物館となっている城址 (15~16世紀改修) ,大聖堂 (16世紀) ,中世風の家並みなども残る。観光が主産業で,刃物,ベアリング,繊維,食品などの工業も発達。人口5万 1143 (1990) 。
