Greek historian Thucydides's eight-volume work covers the Peloponnesian War from its beginning (431 BC) to 411 BC, and is left unfinished. The author realized the seriousness of the event as soon as the war began, and from the beginning he took notes with the intention of writing a history. After being exiled from Athens, he traveled around the country and gathered as much objective information as possible from both sides. His condensed, clear writing style and fair, scientific attitude make this work one of the greatest histories of all time.

War History

The history of a war, or a record of a particular war. In each country, it is customary for military agencies to compile war records after the war has ended. In Japan, the Defense Agency's National Institute for Defense Studies' War History Department compiled the "War History Series" from 1966 to 1980 for the Sino-Japanese War and World War II.
