Greek historian Thucydides's eight-volume work covers the Peloponnesian War from its beginning (431 BC) to 411 BC, and is left unfinished. The author realized the seriousness of the event as soon as the war began, and from the beginning he took notes with the intention of writing a history. After being exiled from Athens, he traveled around the country and gathered as much objective information as possible from both sides. His condensed, clear writing style and fair, scientific attitude make this work one of the greatest histories of all time.War HistorySource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
