A perennial aquatic plant of the Laceaceae family (APG classification: Laceaceae). Native to Madagascar, it is cultivated in aquariums for decorative purposes. The rhizome is long and creeping. The submerged leaves are 15-30 cm long, with thin stalks and obovate or oblong leaf blades. They lack mesophyll and have reticulate veins, giving them a beautiful lace-like appearance. From summer to autumn, they produce long flower stalks, at the end of which emerge above the water surface and bear forked inflorescences. The flowers are small and numerous, yellowish-white, with two perianths and six stamens. They require water depths of about 40 cm, adequate light and fresh water, and grow well in water temperatures of 20-24°C. They are propagated by seed or division.
