A plant pattern with leaves that spread out like a fan, and often with a spiral pattern at the base that continues to extend to the left and right. It is said to have originated in ancient Egypt, and is an important motif in arabesque patterns. It was once called honeysuckle pattern because the shape of the flower resembles honeysuckle, but the current theory is that it is a fantastical plant pattern. It became popular along with Buddhist art, and the leaf shapes became more complex, giving rise to the Hosoge pattern. → Related items Patterns Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
