A type of merchant in the Middle Ages. Their name appears in the Thirty-two Artisans' Poetry Contest, but as commodity distribution became more active during the Muromachi period, there were cases of farmers expanding into bamboo sales. In Fukakusa and Kowata near Kyoto, there were Takekugonin (bamboo sellers) belonging to the Yamashina family, but in 1481 (Bunmei 13), the two sides fought over their interests, and it is said that "Fushimi (Fukakusa) was a Hisashikiguonin, Obata was Chikashi," which indicates that Kowata expanded into bamboo sales later than Fukakusa. In addition, the Yamashina family also had the "Takeuri Sanshosha," one of the Sansho that were discriminated against. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
