A scale is installed on a crane to lift and weigh heavy loads while transporting them. There are scales that measure loads while the crane is moving and scales that measure loads while the crane is stopped. Overhead traveling cranes mainly use the stop-weighing type, slewing traveling transporters use the weighing-while-moving and hoisting type, and horizontal retracting cranes often use the weighing-while-hoisting type.
