1917‐47 Spanish bullfighter. His real name was Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez. He was born to a family of bullfighters in Cordoba, Andalusia. He became a regular bullfighter at the Seville bullring in 1939, and became the most popular bullfighter under the Franco regime after the Spanish Civil War. He also had success in Mexico and the United States. He died in August 1947 at the Linares bullring in Jaén.
