Chuchoto - Chuchoto

A Chinese thinker from the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. His pen name was Kyoritsu. He was from Gaoping, Shanyang County (Shandong Province). He loved learning, read books extensively, and was also a writer. When he was in his twenties, he traveled around the surrounding prefectures and counties, and made friends with talented people. He was a man of great generosity and spoke frankly without being picky, which earned him the reputation of being a "madman." Perhaps sensing the turbulent times, he did not accept invitations from the prefectures and counties, and had a cool eye for the human world like a person who only spoke clearly. Later, he was promoted to the position of Shang Shu Lang by Xun Yu, and became a subordinate of Cao Cao. He wrote the 34 chapters of Shogen, in which he commented on the affairs of the times and the modern world, and expressed his anger and sighs. The book has been scattered and only fragments remain, but its viewpoint of placing human affairs at the root and the will of heaven at the end constitutes a criticism of the existing view of divine will and also serves as a prophecy of a new government.

中国、後漢(ごかん)末の思想家。字(あざな)は公理。山陽郡高平（山東省）の人。学問を好み、書物を渉猟、文章家でもあった。二十数歳のころ周辺の州郡を遍歴し、有能の士と交際する。度量が広く、こだわることなく直言し、「狂生」と評された。時勢、風雲の急なるを察してか、州郡の招きに応ぜず、人世には清談の徒のごとき冷静な目をもっていた。のちに荀彧(じゅんいく)によって尚書郎に抜擢(ばってき)され、また曹操(そうそう)の幕下となる。古今、時俗の行事を論説し、発憤嘆息して『昌言(しょうげん)』34篇(へん)を著した。書は散逸し断片断章を残すのみであるが、人事を本(もと)とし、天道を末とする観点は、既存の天命観に対する批判となり、また、新たな政権を予言するものともなっている。
