Prince Kumeno

Year of birth: Unknown Daughter of Emperor Yomei and Princess Anahobe no Omihito. Younger brother of Prince Umayado (Prince Shotoku). In the 10th year of the reign of Empress Suiko (602), he became the "General of the Attack of Silla" and led the various deities, kuni no miyatsuko, and tomo no miyatsuko in Shima District, Tsukushi (northern Itoshima District, Fukuoka Prefecture), but fell ill and died there in February of the following year. His funeral was held in Saha, Suo (Hofu City), and he was later buried at Hanyuyama, Kawachi (Habikino City). After his death, his half-brother Prince Taima became shogun in his place, but he was unable to fulfill his duties due to the death of his wife. The above is an article from the "Nihon Shoki," but it is also a good historical document that shows that a member of the royal family in the 7th century was involved in diplomacy (military affairs).

用明天皇と穴穂部間人皇女の子。厩戸皇子(聖徳太子)の同母弟。推古10(602)年,「撃新羅将軍」となり,諸神部および国造,伴造らを率いて筑紫の嶋郡(福岡県糸島郡の北部)に臨んだが,病を得,翌年2月に当地で亡くなる。殯を周防の娑婆(防府市)で行い,のちに河内埴生山(羽曵野市)に葬ったという。死後,異母兄の当麻皇子が代わって将軍となったが,これも妻の死で任を果たすことなくおわった。以上は『日本書紀』の記事であるが,7世紀の王族の一員が外交(軍事)にかかわったことを示す好史料でもある。
