...From the Keicho and Genna eras (1596-1624), several types of old typeset books were published as a single volume, and in 1643 (Kan'ei 20), a fully-printed version was published and became widely circulated. According to the colophon, the Sanjo family's secret book was passed down from Tomiami in 1445 (Bun'an 2), through seven successors, to Ikenobo Senji (Sen'o) in 1536 (Tenbun 5). It is believed that someone must have compiled many of the secret articles during this roughly 90-year period. ...
