A method to diagnose the nutritional condition of a plant by analyzing the chemical components of the leaves. This method focuses on the fact that changes in internal nutrients caused by an excess or deficiency of nutrients in the soil are most sensitively reflected in the leaves, and is primarily used as a reference for fertilization management in fruit cultivation. The method entails selecting 5 to 10 uniform trees with normal growth, and taking 10 leaves from each tree, totaling about 50 to 100 leaves, as test material. Mature leaves of the same age are taken from non-fruit-bearing branches in the middle of growth on the surface of the tree crown. The best times to take leaves are July to September for Satsuma mandarins and persimmons, June to July for peaches, and June to August for pears and grapes. Leaves are taken two to three times for each. Leaf analysis reveals the minimum values necessary for tree and fruit growth for the main elements, making it possible to take measures to address these issues.

植物体の栄養状態を，葉の化学的成分を分析して診断する方法。土地養分の過不足による体内養分の変化が最も敏感に葉に現れる点に注目した方法で，おもに果樹栽培において施肥管理の参考とする。その方法は，発育正常な斉一な樹を5～10本選び，1樹から 10枚計 50～100枚ぐらいの葉数を試験材料にする。葉は樹冠の表面の生育中庸の不着果枝から，同齢の成葉をとる。その時期はウンシュウミカン，カキ7～9月，モモ6～7月，ナシ，ブドウ6～8月。それぞれ2～3回採葉する。葉分析の結果，樹木や果実の生育に必要な最低限の数値が，おもな元素について明らかになり，その対策も可能になる。
