Its name comes from the fact that the target was made with a hat. The target was made of cypress wood with cowhide on the front and cotton between the leather and the board, and a circle of appropriate size drawn in ink in the center was used. The target distance was 10 jo (about 30 m). The arrows used were large, excluding the arrowhead, and had a hikime pattern made for hat-hanging. Depending on how far the target was, there were two types: far-away hat-hanging and small-away hat-hanging.
