Cimicifuga simplex (English name)

Japanese: サラシナショウマ(晒菜升麻) - サラシナショウマ(英語表記)Cimicifuga simplex
Cimicifuga simplex (English name)
A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family, widely distributed in the cool temperate zone of eastern Asia. It grows under trees and in grasslands in mountainous areas throughout Japan. It can reach a height of up to 1m. The leaves are large, compound, with 2-3 trifoliates, and alternate on long stalks. The base of the petiole becomes membranous and widens, embracing the stem. In July and August, a 20cm-long inflorescence appears at the top of the stem, densely bearing numerous small white flowers. Each flower has a short stalk, white linear petals that fall off quickly, but the numerous stamens remain in the form of white threads, resembling a bottle brush. The fruit is a capsule.
