...In the former Soviet Union, various central conferences of trade union-related sports organizations, the Soviet Defense Forces, and all-Union students were also called Spartakiades. The largest was the 1st Soviet National Spartakiade (Spartakiada narodov USSR) held in July 1956. The second was held in 1959, and thereafter it was held regularly every four years, and in the year before the Olympics, but it naturally disappeared with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
