A village in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture, at the western end of Yazu County. It stretches from east to west along the Saji River. Population 3,127 (1995). In the early modern period, the 22 villages of Sajigo were famous for producing Inshu washi paper, a specialty of the area, and at its peak there were more than 200 papermaking farms. The number decreased in the Showa period, and today a cooperative has found a way to survive by producing calligraphy paper. Fruit trees, especially Nijisseiki pears, are widely grown. The midstream of the Saji River produces Saji stone, which is used for garden stones and water stones, but quarrying is currently prohibited under the Nature Conservation Ordinance.
