In 1555, at the Imperial Diet of Augsburg, a treaty was concluded between Catholics and Lutherans to settle the religious conflicts that had arisen in Germany as a result of the Protestant Reformation. It was based on equal rights for both the old and new churches, but the Protestants were limited to the Lutheran Church that upheld the Augsburg Confession of Faith established by the Imperial Diet of 1530, and Calvinists were excluded. In principle, freedom of religion was decided by the feudal and city authorities, and dissatisfied residents were only allowed to move.

1555年，アウクスブルクAugsburgの帝国議会で，カトリックとルター派の間で宗教改革に伴うドイツの宗教的対立に一応の決着をつけた協約。新旧両派の同権を基礎としたが，そこでいう新教は1530年帝国議会での〈アウクスブルク信仰告白〉を奉ずるルター派教会に限られ，カルバン派は除外された。信仰の自由は，原則として諸侯・都市当局が決め，不満な住民は移動することだけが許された。
