Japanese: 三叉神経 - さんさしんけい（英語表記）trigeminal nerve

The fifth pair of cranial nerves, a mixed nerve consisting of a major sensory portion and a minor motor portion. It originates in the rhombencephalon, and the major sensory portion forms the trigeminal (semilunar) ganglion, from which it divides into the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves. The minor motor portion travels medially through the trigeminal ganglion, joins with the mandibular nerve, and gives off branches that control the movement of the masticatory muscles. The major sensory portion is distributed to the entire skin of the face, the nasal and oral cavities, and all of the upper and lower teeth. The ophthalmic nerve is attached to the ciliary ganglion, the maxillary nerve to the pterygopalatine ganglion, and the mandibular nerve to the otic ganglion and submandibular ganglion.

脳神経の第5対で，感覚性の大部と運動性の小部から成る混合神経。菱脳より発し，感覚性の大部は三叉 (半月) 神経節をつくり，その先が眼神経，上顎神経，下顎神経に分れる。運動性の小部は三叉神経節の内側を経て，下顎神経と合し，咀しゃく筋の運動を支配する枝を出す。感覚性の大部は顔面の全部の皮膚と鼻腔および口腔，上下歯牙の全部に分布し，眼神経には毛様体神経節，上顎神経には翼口蓋神経節，下顎神経には耳神経節と顎下神経節がついている。
