There are three methods for arranging the events that have occurred on Earth during geological time in chronological order and weaving together the history of the Earth. The first method uses the principle that radioactive elements contained in the minerals that make up rock strata decay at a constant rate to determine how long ago a rock was formed, that is, to measure its geological age.
