Year of death: 1680 Year of birth: 1600 A feudal lord in the early Edo period. Commonly known as Yasusuke and later Shinrokuro, his official titles were Settsu no Kami, then Saien no Masa, then Bitchu no Kami, and his father was Shigemasa. He served Tokugawa Ieyasu, and later became attached to Tokugawa Hidetada. In 1631 he became the head of the page group, and in 1639 he became its head clerk, serving closely with Tokugawa Iemitsu. In 1640 he became one of the Rokuninshu (later Wakadoshiyori) along with Matsudaira Nobutsuna and others, and in 1641 he was given an additional stipend of 10,000 koku, becoming a feudal lord. In 1642 he went down to Kyushu during the Shimabara Rebellion, and in the same year became a soshaban (a representative of the government) and was given a fief of 35,000 koku in Nishio, Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture). The following year, in 1643 he went on a business trip to Nagasaki to announce the prohibition of Portuguese ships from arriving. He later compiled the "Kan'ei Shoka Keizuden." In 1644 he moved to Hamamatsu Castle. A descendant of six generations of Ota Dokan, he adorned the finest of the Tokugawa vassals.
