Toshio Kishi

Japanese: 岸俊男 - きしとしお

1920-1987 A Japanese history scholar from the late Showa period.
Born September 15, 1920. Became a professor at his alma mater, Kyoto University, in 1969. Later served as a professor at Aichi Gakuin University and director of the Nara Prefectural Kashihara Archaeological Institute. Specializing in political and economic history, he led the postwar academic world of ancient history with his research on the capital city system, wooden tablets, and inscriptions on metal and stone. He passed away on January 21, 1987. He was 66 years old. He was born in Kyoto. His works include "Research on Ancient Japanese Political History" and "Research on Ancient Japanese Imperial Capitals."

大正9年9月15日生まれ。昭和44年母校京大の教授となる。のち愛知学院大教授,奈良県立橿原(かしはら)考古学研究所所長をつとめる。政治・経済史を専門とし,都城制や木簡(もっかん)・金石(きんせき)文の研究などによって戦後の古代史学界を先導した。昭和62年1月21日死去。66歳。京都出身。著作に「日本古代政治史研究」「日本古代宮都の研究」など。
