Born September 15, 1920. Became a professor at his alma mater, Kyoto University, in 1969. Later served as a professor at Aichi Gakuin University and director of the Nara Prefectural Kashihara Archaeological Institute. Specializing in political and economic history, he led the postwar academic world of ancient history with his research on the capital city system, wooden tablets, and inscriptions on metal and stone. He passed away on January 21, 1987. He was 66 years old. He was born in Kyoto. His works include "Research on Ancient Japanese Political History" and "Research on Ancient Japanese Imperial Capitals."
