[Died] March 12, 1993. Born in Guangzhou, Guangdong. Chinese politician and soldier. Joined the Communist Party of China in 1927. Became Minister of Agriculture and Reclamation and Central Committee member of the State Council in 1956. Became Vice Premier of the State Council in January 1975, and served as a member of the Politburo and Central Military Commission before retiring from his position in September 1980. In 1985, he was transferred to the position of Deputy Director of the Central Advisory Committee. Became Vice President in April 1988. Wang Zhen's political stance was two-sided, as he had taken a tough stance against intellectuals' calls for liberalization since the Yan'an period, but after the Anti-Rightist Movement, he protected the intellectuals under his jurisdiction. During the reform period, he was known as one of the conservative elders, but he is also said to have advised Deng Xiaoping on the establishment of special economic zones.

中国の政治家，軍人。 1927年中国共産党に入党。 56年から国務院農墾部長，中央委員。 75年1月国務院副総理に就任，政治局委員，中央軍事委員会委員を歴任したのち，80年9月国務院副総理から引退。 85年中央顧問委員会副主任に転任した。 88年4月国家副主席に就任。延安時代から知識人の自由化を求める動きにきびしい態度をとってきた反面，反右派運動後は，自分の管轄下にいた知識人を保護するなど王震の政治姿勢には二面性があった。改革期には保守長老の一人として知られたが，経済特区の設置について鄧小平に進言したともいわれる。
