knez

Japanese: knez
knez

...This was the so-called First Bulgarian Kingdom, which lasted until 1018. The Bulgars (called Proto-Bulgarians in Bulgarian history) led by Asparuh played a role in the formation of the Bulgarian state and nation, and their mutual influence with the South Slavs is unclear due to the lack of historical documents, but they were eventually assimilated by the overwhelmingly more numerous South Slavs, and the title of the head of the state was changed from khan to the Slavic knez. The rest of the Bulgars, led by their second son Kotlag, migrated upstream to the area where the Volga River meets the Kama River.
