Eider Dane Party - Eider Dane Party

...This relationship continued even after the collapse of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 and the formation of the German Confederation by the Congress of Vienna, with the King of Denmark becoming a member of the German Confederation in his capacity as Duke of Holstein.
[Schleswig-Holstein problem]
This situation, however, did not fit with the demands of liberalism and nationalism that flared up all over the country after the French Revolution, and the German nobility of Schleswig-Holstein sought their own constitutions for the two duchies and sought independence from Denmark, while the national-liberal Eider Dane party in Denmark launched a movement to separate Schleswig from Holstein and incorporate it into Denmark, which found supporters in northern Schleswig, where many Danes lived. This issue was further complicated by the fact that neither King Christian VIII of Denmark (reigned 1839-48) nor his brother, Frederick, who was to succeed him to the throne, had children, and that while female succession was recognized in Denmark, it was not recognized in the German-origin Holstein.

[シュレスウィヒ・ホルシュタイン問題]
