Japanese: ムカシカワトンボ(昔河蜻蛉) - ムカシカワトンボ

A general term for insects in the Amphipterygidae family of dragonflies. There are about 15 species in five genera known worldwide: Amphipteryx (Central America), Pentaphlebia (Tropical Africa), Diphlebia (Australia), Devadatta (Southeast Asia), and Philoganga (China and the Himalayas). This relict group is thought to be the ancestor of the river damselfly group, with the branching of the longitudinal veins of the wings biased toward the base of the wing and two or more anterior transverse veins. Some are river damselfly-type ( Devatta genus), some are damselfly-type ( Pentaphlebia genus), some are short and thick ( Diphlebia genus), and some are huge and grotesque ( Philoganga genus).

トンボ目ムカシカワトンボ科Amphipterygidaeの昆虫の総称。世界にAmphipteryx(中央アメリカ)，Pentaphlebia(熱帯アフリカ)，Diphlebia(オーストラリア)，Devadatta(東南アジア)，Philoganga(中国，ヒマラヤ)の5属約15種が知られている。カワトンボ群の祖先型と考えられる遺存群で，翅の縦脈分岐が翅の基方に片寄り，結節前横脈は2個以上ある。カワトンボ型のもの(Devadatta属)もあるが，イトトンボ式のもの(Pentaphlebia属)，また太短いもの(Diphlebia属)もあり，巨大でグロテスクなもの(Philoganga属)もある。
