Japanese: ヨシキリ(葭切) - ヨシキリ（英語表記）reed warbler

A general term for birds of the Acrocephalus genus, subfamily Muscicapidae, order Passeriformes. Includes about 15 species. Length 13-19cm. All have a brownish feather color. Widely distributed in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, they live in tall grasslands such as reed beds. They fly from one reed stalk to another, using their long legs to perch on the stalk and catch insects and spiders to eat. They often lurk in the grass, so they are rarely seen except for singing males. Males perch at the top of grass stalks and sing loudly.

スズメ目ヒタキ科ウグイス亜科ヨシキリ属Acrocephalusの鳥の総称。約15種が含まれる。全長13～19cm。いずれも全体に褐色系のじみな羽色をしている。ヨーロッパ，アジア，アフリカ，オーストラリアに広く分布し，ヨシ原などの高茎草原にすむ。ヨシなどの茎を飛び移りながら，長い脚で茎に横どまりして昆虫やクモをとって食べる。草むらの中を潜行していることが多いので，さえずる雄以外は見ることが少ない。雄は草の茎の先のほうにとまって大きな声でさえずる。
