Japanese: ムカシゴカイ(昔沙蚕) - ムカシゴカイ

A general term for annelids belonging to the order Protodrilidae and class Archiannellida of the class Polychaeta, or one of these species. The annelid Saccocirrus major (illustration) is distributed in Hokkaido and Honshu north of Okayama, and lives among the gravel in the intertidal zone. It is thread-like, 15-27 mm long and 0.3-0.4 mm wide, with 65-145 segments. Its body color is yellowish brown, and its greenish-brown digestive tract can be seen from the surface. Its protostomal lobe is roughly triangular, with a pair of small dark red eyespots.

多毛綱ムカシゴカイ目Protodrilida原始環虫綱Archiannelidaに属する環形動物の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。ムカシゴカイSaccocirrus major（イラスト）は北海道と本州の岡山以北に分布し，潮間帯の砂れきの間に生息する。体長15～27mm，体幅0.3～0.4mmの糸状で，65～145体節をもつ。体色は黄褐色で，緑褐色の消化管が体表からわかる。前口葉はほぼ三角形で，暗赤色の小さい眼点が1対ある。
