Queen of France. Born in Vienna as the daughter of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa, she married the Dauphin of France (who became King Louis XVI in 1774) in 1770. Blessed with beauty and intelligence, she was dissatisfied with her husband, who was good but lacking in talent, and caused several scandals that caused him to lose the trust of the people. When the French Revolution began, she encouraged her undecided husband to oppose the revolution, and became the center of counter-revolutionary intrigues at court.

フランス国王ルイ16世の王妃。オーストリアの女帝マリア･テレジアの娘としてウィーンに生まれ，1770年にフランスの王太子(1774年に即位してルイ16世となる)と結婚した。美貌と才知に恵まれた彼女は，善良だが才気に乏しい夫王にあきたらず，いくつものスキャンダルをおこして国民の信頼を失った。フランス革命が始まると，態度を決めかねていた夫王を促して革命に反対するようにしむけ，宮廷における反革命の陰謀の中心になった。
