〘Noun〙 (Machiavellism)① A doctrine or ideology that says that any immoral means are permissible in order to gain power. It is so named because Machiavelli's "The Prince" is set in 15th-16th century Italy and describes a realistic method of ruling by a prince. [Dictionary of Foreign Words (1914)]② Generally refers to a way of thinking or attitude that does not choose the means to achieve one's goals. *Seyama's Story (1924) <Kajii Motojiro> "Hey! Here comes the old fox of Machiavellianism." Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
