Mount Kongo

<br /> A mountain in Gose City, Nara Prefecture. Also known as Mount Takama and Mount Takama. It is the highest peak in the Kongo Mountains at 1,128m above sea level. There are three hiking trails on the Yamato side, at Takama, Mashi , and Owa (Gojo City), and two on the Osaka side, leading to Mizukoshi Pass to the north and Fushimi Pass to the south. It was opened as a training ground for asceticism since ancient times, and was designated a national historic site in 1934 (Showa 9) due to its historical importance, such as being the site of the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts in the Middle Ages. It is said that En no Ozunu founded this mountain, and that Gyoki also climbed it. The name of the mountain comes from the mountain name of Mount Kongo Tenporin-ji Temple at the top, but it is said that Mount Kongo, based on the Avatamsaka Sutra, is where the Bodhisattva Dharmaki resides, and during the Kamakura and Muromachi periods, 13 temples were built inside and outside the mountain. Afterwards, it suffered repeated fires and reconstructions during the period of conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts, and in the early modern period it was touted as a relic of Kusunoki Masashige, and the main hall was rebuilt in 1962. From Tondabayashi Station on the Kintetsu Nagano Line, get off at the Kongo Bus stop "Chihaya Ropeway Mae", then take the Kongo Mountain Ropeway for about 6 minutes.

奈良県御所市にある山。別称、高天(たかま)山、高間山。金剛山地のなかで標高1128mの最高峰。登山路は大和側に高天、増(まし)、小和(おわ)（五條市）の3口、大阪側に2つあり、北は水越峠、南は伏見峠が通じている。古くから修験道場として開山され、中世には南北朝争乱の場になるなど、歴史上重要であることから、1934年（昭和9）に国の史跡に指定された。この山は役小角(えんのおづぬ)が開いたとされ、行基(ぎょうき)も登山したという。山名は頂上にある金剛山転法輪寺の山号に由来するが、華厳経に基づく金剛山には法起菩薩が止住するといわれ、鎌倉・室町時代には山内外に13坊を構えていたとされる。その後、南北朝争乱期に火災と復興を繰り返し、近世には楠木正成の遺跡として喧伝され、1962年（昭和37）に本堂が再建された。近畿日本鉄道長野線富田林駅から金剛バス「千早ロープウェイ前」下車、金剛山ロープウェイで約6分。
