Lualhati Bautista

A female Tagalog writer and scriptwriter from the Philippines. Since the 1980s, she has attracted attention in the Philippine literary world, and has written many works with powerful messages, dealing with various issues in Philippine society. Her activities are diverse, including novels and television scripts. Her major works include "Gapo" (1980), which deals with the issue of American military bases; "The Seventies" (1983), which depicts the changes in a middle-class woman and her family under Marcos martial law; and "Boy, Boy, What Have You Done?" (1984), which features an ordinary Filipino woman as the protagonist and presents a new image of women. All three of these works won the Palanca Prize.

フィリピンのタガログ語女性作家、脚本家。1980年代以降、フィリピンの文壇で注目を集め、フィリピン社会の諸問題を題材として、メッセージ性の高い作品を数多く手がける。小説、テレビ脚本など、その活動は多彩である。主要作品として、アメリカ軍事基地問題を題材とした『ガポ』（1980）、マルコス戒厳令下の中産階級女性とその家族の変遷を描いた『七〇年代』（1983）、市井のフィリピン人女性を主人公とし、新たな女性像を提示した『坊や、坊や何をされたの？』（1984）があり、以上3編すべてがパランカ賞を受賞した。
