Hoe, Richard March

Japanese: ホー(英語表記)Hoe, Richard March
Hoe, Richard March
Born: September 12, 1812, New York
Died June 7, 1886. Florence. American printer. Son of British-born machinist R. Hawe, who established a printing press manufacturing plant in New York, he joined his father's company in 1827 and became president after his father's death. He revolutionized the printing process by improving the cylinder printing press, increasing the speed, quality, and quantity of production. He discarded the old-fashioned cylinder press and attached type to a rotating cylinder, which eventually became the Hoe Rotary Press, which he patented in 1845 and put into practical use in 1847, printing 8,000 sheets single-sided per hour. He further improved the Hoe Webb Perfecting Press, which was first used by the New York Tribune, printing 18,000 sheets double-sided per hour.
