A breed of horse used for riding and racing. It was developed in the 17th to mid-19th centuries by crossing oriental horse breeds with native British horses, and then crossing mares with Godolphin Barbs, Darley Arabian, and Byerley Turks. It stands 160 cm tall and weighs about 480 kg. Its coat color is bay, chestnut, or black, and it is most often the horse that has the build, constitution, and temperament required for excellent sprinting ability.

ウマの一品種で，乗用・競走用種。17―19世紀中期に英国の在来種に東洋系の馬種を交配したものの雌ウマにゴドルフィン・バルブ，ダーレー・アラブ，バイヤリー・タークを交配させ作出。体高160cm，体重480kgぐらい。毛色は鹿毛(かげ)，栗(くり)毛，青毛などで，すぐれた疾走能力を発揮するのに必要な体型・体質・気質を最も多くもっている。
