Hot spring name - Onsenmei (English)

Japanese: 温泉銘 - おんせんめい（英語表記）Wēn quán míng

This is a running script work by Taizong, the second emperor of the Tang dynasty in China. The hot spring in question is Lishan Hot Spring in Lintong County, east of present-day Xi'an. Taizong built a villa here, visited the area frequently, and erected a monument bearing the hot spring's inscription. The monument no longer exists, but a portion of the rubbing was discovered in the form of a bound scroll among the Dunhuang documents brought back by the Frenchman Pelliot, and Luo Zhenyu determined that it was Taizong's own handwriting. It is a free-spirited work worthy of one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history, and is highly regarded along with the Inscription on Jinci, which is also thought to have been Taizong's own handwriting.

中国，唐第2代太宗の行書作品。この温泉は現在の西安の東方，臨潼（りんどう）県の驪山（りざん）温泉のことで，太宗はこの地に離宮を造営し，たびたび来遊し，温泉銘の碑を立てた。碑は現存しないが，その拓本の一部分が，剪装巻子本の形で，フランスのペリオがもち帰った敦煌（とんこう）文書の中から発見され，羅振玉によって，太宗の自撰自書と断定された。奔放自在な，中国史上屈指の大皇帝の書らしい書で，同じく太宗の自撰自書と考えられる《晋祠銘》とともに高い評価を得ている。
