A lake in the central inland mountain range of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Formed in a rift valley, it has a long and narrow shape. Its surface area is 340 km2, the lake surface is 510 m above sea level, and it is a massive 440 m deep. The water flows north as the Poso River, and empties into Tomini Bay. The surrounding area is inhabited by the Toraja people, and the lake was discovered in 1865 by the Dutchman Wijk, but the governor of Manado Province at the time kept this a secret for 30 years.
