A marine fish of the Scombridae family of the Perciformes order. Edible. A typical tuna found in tropical waters. Also called kiwada. Total length 1.5-2m. The body is thick and spindle-shaped, with a blue-black back and a white belly. The second dorsal and anal fins are yellow, elongated, and sickle-shaped. There are 8-9 small yellow detached fins behind the dorsal and anal fins. It feeds on flying fish and squid, and is mainly caught with longlines. It is widely distributed in the temperate and tropical oceans of the world.
