Brückner cycle

Brückner cycle
The Brueckner cycle was proposed by German climatologist E. Brückner (1890) as a cycle of about 35 years observed in secular changes in climate. He started by finding that the water level of the Caspian Sea fluctuates on an average cycle of 34 to 36 years, and discovered the existence of a cycle close to 35 years by statistically examining a large number of data, such as the water levels of the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the Volga River, the standard number of days that Russian rivers freeze, and the advance and retreat of Alpine glaciers. Subsequent research revealed that precipitation, air pressure, and temperature also fluctuate with a similar cycle. The phase of the Brueckner cycle is not uniform worldwide, but varies regionally; for example, it is in opposite phase in continental interiors and coastal regions. The 35-year cycle is about three times the sunspot cycle, so the Brueckner cycle is thought to be related to the sunspot number.
