[Died] July 10, 2014?. Artist, New York, New York, USA. A representative conceptual artist. Graduated from Kariya High School in 1951, and then moved to Tokyo. He attracted attention with his series of works "Bathroom" (National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo) and "Events in the Shed" (National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo) in 1954. He later advocated "printed painting", traveled to Mexico in 1959, and settled in New York in 1965. In January 1966, he began producing "Date Paintings", which are paintings with only the date of production in white on a single-colored, dark, flat-painted canvas, and this series, which has more than 2,000 pieces, became his representative work. In the 1970s, he began a series of postcards in which he wrote "I Got Up" and sent them to people, and a series of telegrams in which he sent "I AM STILL ALIVE". In 1970-71, he produced a limited edition book called "One Million Years (Past Edition)," in which the number of one million years was typewritten, and in 1980, he produced "One Million Years (Future Edition)." A major retrospective of his work was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo in 1998.

美術家。コンセプチュアル・アートの代表的美術家。1951年刈谷高等学校を卒業，その後上京。1954年に発表した『浴室』（東京国立近代美術館），『物置小屋の出来事』（東京国立近代美術館）の連作で注目を浴びた。その後「印刷絵画」を提唱，1959年にメキシコに渡り，1965年アメリカ合衆国のニューヨークに定住。1966年1月から，単色の濃い平塗りのキャンバスに白色で制作年月日のみを描く「日付絵画」Date Paintingの制作を始め，2000点をこえる同シリーズは代表作となった。1970年代には，絵葉書に「I Got Up」と書いて人に送るシリーズ，電報などで「I AM STILL ALIVE」と発信するシリーズを開始。また 1970～71年に，100万年の年数をタイプライタで打った書物『百万年（過去編）』を，1980年に『百万年（未来編）』を限定制作した。1998年に東京都現代美術館で大回顧展が開催された。
