Brückner (English spelling) Eduard Brückner
1862‐1927
German geographer and climatologist. Born in Jena as the son of glaciologist A. Brückner. Studied natural sciences and geography at the universities of Dorpart, Dresden, and Munich. Worked at the Hamburg Marine Meteorological Observatory, the University of Bern in Switzerland, and the University of Halle in Germany, before becoming a professor at the University of Vienna in 1906, mainly in charge of geology. He studied under A. Penck and together they studied glaciers in the Alps, revealing the existence of four glacial periods. He also founded the glaciological journal Zeitschrift für Gletscherkund.

ドイツの地理学者,気候学者。氷河学者A.ブリュックナーの子としてイェーナに生まれる。ドルパート,ドレスデン,ミュンヘンの各大学で自然科学,地理学などを学ぶ。ハンブルク海洋気象台,スイスのベルン大学,ドイツのハレ大学などに勤め,1906年にはウィーン大学の教授となり,主として地学を担当した。A.ペンクに師事し,共同でアルプス地方の氷河を研究,四つの氷河期の存在を明らかにした。また,《氷河学雑誌Zeitschrift für Gletscherkund》を創刊した。
