Chronicle of the Kingdom of Japan
This is a record of Japan written by Avila Giron, a Spaniard who came to Japan at the end of the 16th century. Avila Giron was a merchant who was active in Southeast Asia, mainly in Nagasaki, and is known to have stayed in Nagasaki for over 20 years until around March 1619 (Genwa 5). This book consists of 23 chapters, and the first three chapters are a general record of Japan, dealing with Japanese society in general based on his many years of observations and experiences in Japan, and conveying the situation at the time well. The descriptions of trade and business relations are particularly important. Chapters 4 and 5 are about the history of Japan before his arrival, and describe the process from Miyoshi Nagayoshi's arrival in Kyoto to the unification of the country by Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and others.
