A Japanese dictionary by Otsuki Fumihiko. The first edition was published in four volumes between 1932 and 1935. An index was published in 1937, and a new edition (one volume) was published in 1956. It is an expanded and revised version of Genkai (1889-91). The author passed away when he had finished the sa-row section, so Okubo Hatsuo took over the work and completed it. Along with the Dai Nippon Kokugo Jiten, it is considered to be the twin jewel of modern Japanese dictionaries, and has had a great influence on Japanese dictionaries in later generations. It is a book that strongly reflects the author's individuality, and although there are many questions about whether this is appropriate or not, one of its major features is the emphasis it places on the etymology of words.
