This is the most detailed collection of historical materials on the Tokugawa clan's process of unifying Japan. It was completed by order of the shogunate over a period of 23 years, beginning in 1819 (Bunsei 2), when over 20 shogunate officials, including University Head Hayashi Jussai, worked on compiling it. It chronologically compiles historical materials and ancient documents from the Tokugawa clan's ancestors to the death of Ieyasu. It consists of 1,093 volumes in total, including 42 volumes on the ancestors, 799 volumes on Ieyasu, and 252 volumes on the Battle of Sekigahara and the Siege of Osaka. The presented copy and drafts are preserved in the National Archives of Japan.

徳川氏の天下統一過程に関するもっとも詳細な史料集成。1819年（文政2）から23年間、幕命により、大学頭林述斎(はやしじゅっさい)以下20余名の幕臣が編集に従事して完成。徳川氏の祖先から家康の死去までの間の史料、古文書を年代順に編集してある。先祖歴代の部42巻、家康の部799巻、関ヶ原の戦いと大坂の陣の部252巻、合計1093巻からなる。その献上本と草稿本は国立公文書館に保存されている。
