This is the most detailed collection of historical materials on the Tokugawa clan's process of unifying Japan. It was completed by order of the shogunate over a period of 23 years, beginning in 1819 (Bunsei 2), when over 20 shogunate officials, including University Head Hayashi Jussai, worked on compiling it. It chronologically compiles historical materials and ancient documents from the Tokugawa clan's ancestors to the death of Ieyasu. It consists of 1,093 volumes in total, including 42 volumes on the ancestors, 799 volumes on Ieyasu, and 252 volumes on the Battle of Sekigahara and the Siege of Osaka. The presented copy and drafts are preserved in the National Archives of Japan.
