〘名〙① すきま。せまいあいだ。ひま。※地蔵十輪経元慶七年点（883）一「善住して堅固にあり。欠(ひま)無く隙(サマ)（〈別訓〉ひま）無きが譬如く」※浄瑠璃・心中天の網島（1720）上「格子のさまより〈略〉ゑいと突くに」② 城壁や櫓(やぐら)などの内側から外をうかがい、矢、鉄砲、大筒を放つための小窓。船では、軍船の矢倉の楯板にあける。矢狭間、鉄砲狭間、大筒狭間がある。〔名語記（1275）〕③ 一般に小窓をいう。〔日葡辞書（1603‐04）〕※浮世草子・好色一代男（1682）四「明り取の狭間(サマ)より隣をみれば」
