A general term for the rights enjoyed by village community peasants in European feudal society to maintain the livelihood of their families. The word comes from Old German and means "share." It consisted of three rights: individual use of a designated plot of land (arable land) in each cultivated area of the house, residential land, and village farmland, and the right to use the common land. The standard cultivated land area considered to be the minimum living condition for a family was 30 morgen (10-12 hectares), and peasants who owned this amount of cultivated land, residential land, and common land use rights and formed a community were called "full Huve peasants." "Cotton peasants" (→ cotters) who did not have a Huve were not eligible to be members of the village community.
